Cockatiel

Cockatiels rank as the second most popular pet bird, right after budgies, making them one of the most common pet birds today. Through selective breeding, dozens of color mutations have been developed. Societies like the National Parrot Association regularly host exhibitions where cockatiel owners can showcase their birds and compete for prizes.

Cockatiel

The cockatiel, Nymphicus hollandicus, is a bird species belonging to the order Psittaciformes and the family Cacatuidae. It features round, orange-yellow patches on its cheeks and white coverts on its wings. The tail feathers are dark gray, with the central tail feathers being exceptionally long.

Their irises are brown. The beak is dark gray, and the legs and feet are gray. Males have deeper colored cheek patches, while females have slightly duller ones. A distinguishing feature is that females have small yellow spots under their wings, which are absent in males.

Cockatiels are primarily found in central Australia, mainly inhabiting forest edges. They are typical birds of open landscapes, preferring to live in flocks and known for their vocalizations. Their diet mainly consists of grass seeds, various plant seeds, fruits, and berries.
